Addressing the Current and Future Needs of the Commonwealth’s Aviation System

The Lexington Regional Aviation System Plan (LRASP), led by the Kentucky Department of Aviation, is more than a transportation study—it’s a framework for long-term air travel and economic development in Central Kentucky.

The purpose of this plan is to supplement the 2017 Kentucky State Aviation System Plan and develop a regional strategy to address growth for the airport system in Central Kentucky.

The Plan will identify three key areas: (1) Current and recommended airport roles; (2) capacity and infrastructure gaps to meet existing and future growth in aviation (3) alternatives to address the gaps.

By identifying the current and future capacity and expansion issues associated with the airports in this region and by understanding the best alternatives, leadership can confidently move forward with a plan for Kentucky’s aviation system.
